In observance of International Women’s Day, we hosted a Virtual Regional Reflection Meeting that spotlighted the remarkable efforts of the We Cannot Wait Project Consortium Members.
Organized under the theme “Enhancing Women’s Resilience in the Horn of Africa for an Equitable and Gender-Inclusive Future,” the partners shared invaluable strategies they have utilized to ensure women’s inclusion across all fronts in the greater Horn of Africa region. These ranged from advocating for equitable family laws, holding governments accountable for gender-responsive budgeting and implementation, enhancing the capacity of grassroots feminist movements, and advocating for women-led initiatives to address conflicts in the region.

Borne of the social justice movement, the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network is an indigenous African women’s rights network with a soul. We are convinced beyond any doubt that if African women are given the space, they will drive change in this region and beyond. Defying presumptions about African women, SIHA has been carried on the shoulders of numerous African women’s rights activists and has been sustained by their relentless commitment to their cause.
